Science
3rd grade science will use Discovery Education as the main curriculum. This is an online techbook that utilizes videos, hands-on labs, reading passages, and interactive activities. In addition, Mr. Lorsung, the Pine City Elementary School science specialist, will use a combination of hands-on lab experiments, journals, and reading passages to help your child hypothesize, make observations, and collect data about the world around them. The following science units will be taught in the regular classroom throughout the year:
Science Units
Animals (taught by Mrs. Ugrich): Throughout this unit, students will learn about how to categorize animals based on traits, discover adaptations that help animals survive and grow, and inherited traits.
|
Plants (taught by Mr. Jensen): Students will explore the structures that help plants grow and survive, how to categorize different plants, and inherited traits among plants.
Solar System (taught by Mr. Bloomquist): In this unit, students will learn about the position of the sun at different times of the year, the phases of the moon, and the planets in our solar system.
Scientific Inquiry--Sink and Float (taught by Mrs. Hansen): Through hands-on exploration, students will discover processes that scientists use to discover the world around them. Students will also learn about scientific methods.
